Vol. 207 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Government Aid for Workers' University Courses.

49.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that at present a number of workers attending evening courses in vocational schools would be most anxious to proceed to further more advanced courses at university level, but have no means to pay the necessary fees; and whether he will investigate the possibility of some Government aid either by means of scholarship grants or of a loan scheme for fees being provided.

Any scheme of grants or loans would have to carry with it an element of competition and I fail to see how a competition relating to such students could be operated.

The answer to the problem of further education for such students will, I think, be found in the Regional Technical Colleges which it is my intention to set up.
