Vol. 207 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Defective Electrical Fittings and Equipment.

11.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, having regard to the growing frequency of defective electrical fittings and equipment, he will state what steps are taken to ensure that such fittings and equipment on the market are up to standard; and if he will take steps to impose prescribed standards.

I am not aware that any such situation as the Deputy describes exists. I would refer him to the reply to a question on this subject in Dáil Éireann on 30th January, 1964. Except where public safety is known to be in jeopardy, I have no power to impose compulsory standards.
