Vol. 207 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roadside Advertising.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ask Dublin Corporation and Dublin County Council to curtail the erection of roadside advertising as it constitutes a distraction to motorists.

I am satisfied that the local authorities in question are discharging their responsibilities as regards the control of roadside advertising as effectively as possible under existing planning legislation. Their powers of dealing with this problem and, in particular, with the problem of the large number of unauthorised advertisement hoardings which have been erected over the years, will be greatly strengthened by the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963.
