Vol. 208 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Adaptation Grants.

43.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the total number of industries investigated by the Committee on Industrial Organisation, the total number of such industries in respect of which recommendations for readaptations and adjustments were suggested, and the number which have applied for adaptation grants to bring about such changes.

The survey of 26 industries has been undertaken by the Committee on Industrial Organisation and survey reports on 17 of these industries have already been published. Recommendations for adaptation and adjustment are included in 16 of the published reports.

As I indicated in reply to questions on 3rd March, 1964, I do not think it desirable that details should be furnished of adaptation grant applications received and approved by An Foras Tionscal prior to the presentation of the Report of that body to both Houses of the Oireachtas. The position as at 29th February, 1964, was, however, that 278 applications for adaptation grants had been received.

Is the Minister in a position to say how many of those in respect of which recommendations were made have applied for grants?

I am afraid I have not that information.
