Vol. 208 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commemoration of 1916 Rising.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if, to avoid unseemly and acrimonious disputes, the Government will consider the establishment of an all-Party committee to discuss and draw up proposals for the fiftieth anniversary commemorative functions to honour the men and women associated with the 1916 Rising.

I cannot visualise disputes of the character suggested by the Deputy taking place in connection with the commemoration of the Rising of 1916, and I see no need for the establishment of a committee such as he proposes.

Has it been decided that there will be some official functions to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Rising?

To be sponsored by the State?

The arrangements for them will be made, as usual, by the Army.
