A Community programme for the elimination of technical barriers to trade was adopted by the EEC Council in a resolution of 17th December, 1973.
The resolution provides that such barriers will be gradually eliminated in five stages up to 1st January, 1978. The programme covers a wide variety of products not all of which are my responsibility. In so far as my Department are concerned, action has been taken in relation to giving legal effect to directives adopted prior to an accession to the Community and we will, of course, implement further proposals adopted by the Council.
