Vol. 208 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beggar's Bush Civil Service Offices.

18.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement regarding the proposal to erect a large civil service office block at Beggar's Bush, Dublin; and if he will indicate what stage has been reached, the proposed capacity, and what Departmental staffs will be located there.

As already announced, the Government decided to accede to the request of the Board of Córas Iompair Éireann for the return to them of the entire premises of Áras Mhic Dhiarmada, the greater part of which is used as the headquarters of the Department of Social Welfare. In order to provide alternative accommodation for the staff of the Department, it was decided to erect a new building on part of the site of the former Beggars' Bush Military Barracks at Haddington Road. The projected building which will be 20 storeys in height, with accommodation for about 1,400 heads of staff, will also house the Department of Health who are at present located in the overcrowded Custom House. Final plans are nearing completion.
