Vol. 209 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Lunch Hour.

15.

Mr. Belton

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the high concentration of traffic in the city of Dublin between the hours of one o'clock and two o'clock is creating a chaotic traffic problem; and if he will consider changing the lunch hour break of civil servants to some other time so as to alleviate this problem.

The Civil Service lunch hour is not concentrated on the period one to two o'clock. The provision of dining club facilities in or near large Civil Service offices means that officers using these facilities do not, in fact, contribute to traffic congestion. In the circumstances no further action in relation to the staggering of the Civil Service lunch hour appears to be necessary.
