Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Housing.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is prepared to give favourable consideration to any proposals for the erection of multi-storey blocks of flats by the Dún Laoghaire Corporation in view of the housing needs of the Borough and of the difficulty of acquiring enough land to satisfy these needs with two-storey houses and four-storey blocks of flats only.

Any such proposal which may be submitted by Dún Laoghaire Corporation will be fully considered on its merits.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is now in a position to say what further proposals have been submitted to him by the Dún Laoghaire Corporation for additional houses in Dún Laoghaire Borough; and if he will indicate the schemes which will be commenced and completed this year, and the number of houses in each case.

The acceptance of a tender for the erection of 142 houses at Rockford, Stradbrook Road, Black-rock, was approved on 20th April, 1964. I understand that work on this scheme will commence shortly. The Corporation are preparing a revised layout plan for 26 houses at Yankee Terrace, Newtownpark Avenue. The arrangements to acquire by agreement a site at Mount Town House for 160 flats did not materialise and the Corporation are taking steps to acquire the site compulsorily.

40.

asked the Minister if he is now in a position to say what further proposals have been submitted to him by the Dublin County Council for additional houses in the Rathdown area; and if he will indicate the schemes which will be commenced and completed this year, and the number of houses in each case.

A proposal to extend the contract for 46 houses, currently in progress in Stillorgan, to provide for the erection of 20 further houses was approved on 20th December, 1963. This scheme is expected to be completed early next year.

The acceptance of a tender for the development of a site at Shankill for 62 houses was approved on 5th February, 1964, and it is expected that work will commence shortly. I am informed that the erection of some houses on this site may be commenced in the present year. The actual number to be provided will be determined on completion of the development work. I understand that the 88-house scheme at Dundrum is due for completion in January, 1965.
