Vol. 209 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Old Age Pensioners.

55.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of persons in receipt of (a) non-contributory and (b) contributory old age pensions in North Tipperary as at 31st March in each of the years 1960 to 1964, inclusive.

Statistics of contributory and non-contributory old age pensions are not compiled by my Department for the separate areas of North and South Tipperary, but only for the county as a whole. The particular information requested by the Deputy is not, therefore, available. I might also point out that statistics for non-contributory old age pensions by county are compiled only as at 31st December each year. The old age (contributory) pension scheme commenced on 6th January, 1961, and the earliest date for which county statistics are available is 31st August, 1961.

The number of persons receiving non-contributory old age pensions in County Tipperary at the 31st December in each of the years 1960 to 1963 was as follows—

31st December, 1960

7,141

31st December, 1961

4,962

31st December, 1962

4,820

31st December, 1963

4,945

The number of persons receiving old age (contributory) pensions in County Tipperary was as follows—

31st August, 1961

1,778

31st March, 1962

1,806

31st March, 1963

1,866

31st March, 1964

1,890
