Vol. 209 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ninth Round Wage Increase.

39.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the twelve per cent wage increase is intended to apply to commission agents.

I presume the Deputy refers to the recommendation made by the employers' organisations and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions that revised wage and salary agreements should provide for increases in basic rates not exceeding 12 per cent. This recommendation was not limited to particular classes of workers but it included a provision that, in the event of employers and trade union interests being unable to reach agreement on wage increases in any particular occupation or trade, the usual machinery for the peaceful settlement of disputes should be utilised and, if necessary, the parties should have recourse to the Labour Court.
