Vol. 209 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meat Price Increase.

12.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is his intention to set up an inquiry into the very steep increases in the price of meat.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave in Dáil Éireann on 5th March, 1964, vol. 208 cols. 434/5, to a question on meat prices. There is nothing I can usefully add to what I said on that occasion.

Does the Minister not know there has been a recent steep increase in the price of meat?

As I say, there is nothing additional I can tell the Deputy on it.

Is the Minister aware there was a recent increase in price over and above the one to which the earlier reply refers? Would the Minister for Education recommend to the Minister for Industry and Commerce the establishment of a system such as that suggested by the Evening Press whereby the housewife could buy her meat on hire purchase arrangements?

The answer given on 5th March is still applicable and I refer the Deputy to it.

The Evening Press recommends——
