Vol. 209 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Intermediate and Leaving Certificate Examinations.

20.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the damaging effects on the studies of prospective intermediate and leaving certificate candidates caused by the uncertainty and indecision surrounding this year's examinations, he will have consideration given to these effects and reduce the standard of marking accordingly.

I am not satisfied that there is any basis for the assumption in the first part of the question. Therefore, the second part does not arise.

Mr. Ryan

If, when the results come out, the Minister finds there is a basis for the assumption, will he see to it that sympathetic consideration is given to altering the standard?

My main consideration will be to see that the certificates awarded in this examination will be equal in esteem to any other year.
