Vol. 210 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Roscrea Lands.

30.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have received an offer for the purchase of the lands known as the Abbott Estate, Ballyphilip, Roscrea, County Offaly comprising approximately 135 acres; if in view of local congestion he will ask the Land Commission to accept the offer from the person who recently purchased the lands and to have them secured for the local people; if in the event of no agreement on price being reached he will ask the Land Commission to institute compulsory acquisition in view of the special circumstances of this case, having regard to the fact that the lands were first inspected by the Land Commission in 1958; and if all local claims for land on this Estate will be fully considered.

I understand that certain dealings, which for the present must be treated as confidential, are pending between the Land Commission and the owner of this estate but it is not possible at this stage to forecast the outcome.
