Vol. 210 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cigarette Advertisements.

1.

asked the Minister for Health whether he intends to take any steps to limit or control in any way the continued advertisement of cigarettes in the public press and on television in the light of the recent incontrovertible and authoritative evidence that their use can cause lung cancer.

As indicated in reply to a question on 27 February, 1964 (Dáil Debates, Volume 207, No. 13, columns 1786-1787), control of cigarette advertising is under consideration. My Department is in communication with some of the interests involved in such advertisements with a view to considering the operation of a code of standards. It is hoped to arrange a discussion on the subject with those interests in the near future.
