Vol. 210 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Horse-Drawn Agricultural Machinery.

10.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the great inconvenience caused to small farmers in the West by the shortage of parts for horse-drawn agricultural machinery; and if he will have the matter examined with a view to ensuring that such parts are readily available.

I have not received any complaints about a shortage of parts for the commonly used horse-drawn machines. If, however, the Deputy gives me details of the shortages that have come to his notice, I shall enquire as to the possibility of supplies and let him know the results. Farmers may, of course, expect to find difficulty in procuring parts for makes of machines which are not commonly used here or which are no longer in production, and in such circumstances they may have to arrange with local engineering firms or blacksmiths for the manufacture of the parts.
