Vol. 210 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Schools.

40.

asked the Minister for Education (1) the total number of national schools in Kildare constituency, (2) the number that have water and sewerage services, and (3) the number for which there are plans for the installation of water and sewerage services.

There are 129 national schools in the Kildare Constituency. About two-thirds of the schools have water-flushed systems of sanitation. The sanitary facilities in the remainder consist of filter-bed latrines, dry closets or elsan closets.

Eighteen of the schools are being replaced by new schools, all of which will have a flushed system of sanitation.

The enlargement or improvement of seven existing schools is also planned and they will also be provided with water and sewerage facilities.
