Vol. 210 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Curragh Army House.

47.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why the large house belonging to the Army on the edge of the Curragh has been vacant for a year since it was vacated by Army officers and their families who are now living in the Camp.

I assume that the house to which the Deputy refers is that known as Clonree House, which was used as officers' married quarters up to Aibreán, 1963. Following full consideration, it has been decided not to continue such use and to offer the house and adjoining stables for long lease by public competition.

Could the Minister say why it took a year to come to that decision, in view of the very great housing shortage in the area?

I am afraid I must admit I cannot answer that question at the moment but if the Deputy puts down another question I shall try to get the information required. I do not think a year is very long in the circumstances.

The people looking for houses think it is.
