Vol. 210 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tractor Accidents.

22.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the high rate of fatal accidents caused by tractors overturning, he will have steps taken in co-operation with tractor manufacturers to conduct research into the possibility of designing tractors which will be less prone to overturn.

Tractors are not made or assembled in the country and I am not, therefore, in a position to take action of the kind suggested in the question. I know of course that a great deal of research on this subject is being carried out by tractor manufacturers in other countries and that certain safety devices have been designed and marketed by them.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by the Minister for Agriculture to a question on this subject on 2nd May, 1962.
