Vol. 211 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report on Transport.

44.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total cost of the Pacemaker report on transport.

45.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power how many copies of the Pacemaker report on internal transport have been printed; how many have been sold; and how many free copies were distributed.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 44 and 45 together.

I am informed by CIE that the Pacemaker report was produced by the staff of the Board in the normal course of their duties together with outside statistical assistance; and its production was not separately costed. The report was not put on sale. Apart from the laying of copies on the Table of the House, which was done at my behest, the circulation of the report is a matter of day to day administration of the Board.

I asked the Minister how many copies were printed.

Only a limited number. It is entirely a matter for CIE.

It is purely an internal matter for CIE. The Deputy has seen a copy of the Pacemaker report. It was prepared in connection with the internal reorganisation of CIE—a comparing of the various ways of carrying out transport.

How many copies were printed?

It is of no interest——

It is. The Minister spoke as if everybody in the country knew the contents.

The Deputy will next be asking me how many boats CIE——

I want to know how many copies of the Pacemaker report were printed.

Enough to serve the interests of CIE and to provide copies to this House.

Did you print a dozen?

Next question.
