Vol. 211 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of CIE Lines.

49.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if it is the intention of CIE to close down any section or sections of the railways in the coming year.

I am informed by CIE that the examination of the economics of railway operations is a continuous process and it is not possible to say, at this stage, if any section or sections of line will be closed in the coming year.

Will we ever be able to get information from the Minister? Will the Minister tell us how we can get information when he intends to close a railway line?

If the Deputy reads my speech on the Second Stage of the Transport Bill, he will see a perfectly clear statement of the general policy regarding railways. I invite him to read that.

The Minister will forgive me if I do not take his word because he has broken his word in this House in regard to railways several times.
