Vol. 211 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Water Supplies.

72.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the terrible conditions obtaining at Coalbrook, Thurles, County Tipperary because of the lack of water supply; and if, in view of the fact that people must use contaminated water, thereby endangering the health of the community, he will take immediate action to ensure that the proposed water supply will be provided immediately.

I am aware of the need for a piped water supply for Coalbrook. A scheme has been fully approved by me for some time. I understand that certain legal difficulties delayed commencement of the work but that these are now almost resolved and that work should commence shortly.

73.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need of sewerage facilities for the village of Ballingarry, County Tipperary; and if in view of the fact that the people in the low-lying regions are having their premises polluted in a most objectionable manner since the water supply was given to this village and of the grave danger to health obtaining there, he will take immediate steps to ensure that sewerage facilities are provided immediately.

I am aware of the need for this scheme, which was approved in principle 1st January. I am awaiting the submission by the county council of contract documents. These documents, which are being prepared by the council's consultant, should be ready shortly.
