Vol. 211 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mass Radiography Service.

9.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is satisfied with the progress of the Mass Radiography Service; if not, whether it is proposed to launch a fresh publicity campaign with a view to encouraging people to avail themselves of this magnificent service; and if he will give details of this campaign.

The number of persons X-rayed in 1963 by the National Mass-Radiography Association was 284,842. This figure was exceeded only once previously.

While one would like to see the service availed of to an even greater extent by the public, nevertheless having regard to the physical characteristics of the country, the distribution of the population and the increasing concentration on intensive community surveys which, although more valuable in the ultimate in achieving the eradication of tuberculosis, tend to reduce numbers, the results last year could not be adjudged as unsatisfactory.

The Association keeps its publicity campaign under continuous review. I do not think it is necessary to detail its efforts in that regard.
