Vol. 211 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscommon Cement Shortage.

9.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the recent serious shortage of cement in County Roscommon for building purposes; and if he will take the necessary steps to see that this position is remedied without delay.

No complaints of the shortage referred to by the Deputy have been received in my Department. I have had inquiries made and I am informed that one complaint about the inadequacy of cement supplies in County Roscommon was received by Cement Limited early this month. The company ascribe the shortage in that county to a sharp increase in general demand in recent weeks. They have given an assurance that arrangements have been made which will ensure that the position is remedied without delay.

Is there not a time lag of roughly three or four weeks with Cement Limited?

That is a detail I am not aware of. I was asked about a particular problem that has been remedied at very short notice.
