Vol. 211 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Primary Certificate Passes.

30.

asked the Minister for Education the percentage of passes in the primary certificate in each of the last five years; the percentage of passes in schools teaching through the medium of Irish; and the percentage where such was not the case.

The answer to the first part of the question is as follows:—

1959—

83.9%

1960—

85.8%

1961—

83.3%

1962—

85.7%

1963—

81.9%

The statistics available in my Department relate to all schools and do not differentiate as between schools where all the instruction is given through Irish and other schools. I am arranging, however, to have a break down on these lines of the statistics for 1963 and the resultant information will be furnished to the Deputy in due course.
