Vol. 211 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Entrance Examination.

40.

asked the Minister for Justice (a) how many applicants sat for the recent entrance examination for membership of the Garda Síochána, (b) how many were successful, and (c) how many can expect to be called for training.

There were 821 applicants, 523 of whom passed the written examination. Candidates who obtained the first three hundred and fifty places will be called for interview, oral Irish test and medical examination.

Can the Minister indicate the actual date on which they will be called?

I cannot say when the entire 350 will be called. The process commences now and will go on at least until next December. If the Deputy wishes to find out in relation to any particular individual when he can expect to be called I shall be delighted to furnish the information.
