Vol. 211 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Contributory Old Age Pensions.

32.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will accept English contributions for the purpose of assessing contributions for contributory old age pensions.

Only appropriate contributions under the National Health Insurance Acts, prior to 5th January, 1953, and under the Social Welfare Acts may be taken into account at present for the purpose of satisfying the contribution conditions for old age, contributory, pension. As I have indicated in reply to recent questions, however, preliminary discussions have taken place between officers of my Department and officers of the British Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance on the question of reciprocal arrangements involving Irish old age, contributory, pensions and British retirement pensions.
