Vol. 211 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstruction Grant.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state fully the reasons why a person (name supplied), a rural cottage occupier, who applied for a reconstruction grant was allowed only one-third of the cost of reconstruction, rather than two-thirds which is normal for this type of applicant.

Only persons engaged solely or mainly in the pursuit of agriculture and whose valuations do not exceed £50 qualify for a State reconstruction grant based on two-thirds of the estimated cost of work; for all other persons the one-third rate of grant applies. As the applicant in question is not engaged solely or mainly in the pursuit of agriculture, the grant in his case was based on one-third of the estimated cost of the reconstruction work involved.
