Vol. 211 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim-Roscommon House Grants.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of applications for (a) new houses and (b) reconstruction grants awaiting inspection in (1) Leitrim and (2) Roscommon and the average period during which such applications have been so awaiting inspection; and if he is aware that there is great dissatisfaction in both these counties due to the delay encountered by applicants in having both allocations made for grants, and payments made for grants when the work has been done.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to give the answer to the first part of the question in the form of a tabular statement which will be circulated in the Official Report. I am not aware that there is dissatisfaction in both these counties due to the delay encountered by applicants as stated by the Deputy and the figures given in the tabular statement do not indicate that applicants have any cause for such dissatisfaction. As regards the position in County Leitrim, I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by me to Question No. 49 by Deputy McLaughlin on 7th April and Question No. 18 by Deputy Gilhawley on 22nd April. Since then, the position as regards prompt discharge of grant cases continues to be satisfactory.

Following is the statement:—

NOTE: It should be noted that allocations have been made in all cases ready for allocation.

The above cases awaiting allocation consist mostly of:—

(1) Cases where full documentation requested has not been received from the applicant and is awaited.

(2) Cases where initial proposals or work carried out do not comply with the Department's standards and amended proposals or indication of willingness to comply are awaited.

(3) Water and sewerage schemes where joint domestic and farm supplies are involved and although the proposals have been approved, and the applicant notified, the exact amount of the grant cannot be determined at this stage.

Cases of payment pending include cases in various stages of preparation and cases where the claim forms are with the applicants for signature.
