Vol. 211 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Copper Salvaged from Wrecked Vessel.

21.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what inquiries or other investigations were made to ascertain whether the wrecked vessel Boniface, from which copper subsequently landed at Cork port was salvaged by a British firm off the Donegal coast, was inside or outside territorial limits with a view to asserting, should the occasion arise, the rights of the State in respect of any copper salvaged from this vessel.

The information furnished to the Receiver of Wrecks in this case indicated that the wreck lay outside territorial waters. As the salvors produced satisfactory evidence of title to the sunken vessel and cargo, the question of the rights of the State in respect of the salvaged cargo did not arise and the situation of the wreck was not therefore relevant in this respect.
