Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shortage of Cement.

26.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the serious shortage of cement in County Donegal; and that large consignments of cement are being exported to Northern Ireland by a firm (name supplied) via UTA and CIE; and if in the best interests of builders and contractors in County Donegal he will take steps to remedy the position.

I have received only two complaints about the inadequacy of cement supplies in County Donegal and one of these complaints was from the Deputy himself.

I am aware that cement is being exported to the Six Counties by Cement Limited. In order to meet the sharp increase in home demand I understand that exports to that area have been considerably reduced in recent weeks and further reductions are envisaged.

Cement Limited have, I am assured, made arrangements which, it is expected, will eliminate the cause of the complaints.
