Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Dual Carriageways.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government what dual carriageway roads it is intended to provide as main arteries in the city of Dublin; when it is expected that these roads will be completed; the amount of the grant in each case; and the total cost of the portion within the area of the Dublin County Council in each case.

Improvement to at least dual carriageway standard is necessary in the case of the portions of the following arterial roads which lie within the County Dublin boundary, namely: T.1—Dublin-Drogheda; T.5 —Dublin-Naas; T.7 — Dublin-Bray; T.3—Dublin-Mullingar; T.35—Dublin-An Uaimh.

Both the Dublin Corporation and the Dublin County Council are engaged on the preparation and execution of a works programme towards this end, but it is not possible at this stage to forecast when the programme will reach completion.

These works are financed by way of 100 per cent grants from the Road Fund, and grants are allocated for the various sections of the work as the construction stage is reached. Up to the present, a grant of £109,240 has been allocated to the Dún Laoghaire Borough Corporation in respect of the section of the Bray Road which lies in their district, and a total of £457,256 to the Dublin County Council for the various sections of the Naas Road already undertaken in their area.

I have given an assurance to the road authorities concerned that the necessary financial support will be forthcoming to enable this programme to be completed, but I am not at this stage in a position to indicate what the final cost of the programme will be.
