asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of persons in receipt of old age pensions, and the total amount payable to them.

At 31st March, 1964, there were 114,547 persons in receipt of old age (non-contributory) pension and 37,923 in receipt of old age (contributory) pension.

Taking account of the improvements contained in the Social Welfare Bill at present before the Oireachtas, the estimated cost in the current financial year of the non-contributory pensions is £10,634,000 and of the contributory pensions £6,529,500.
