asked the Taoiseach if he will state the approximate total population of the State on the 1st June, 1964; and the total number of persons under the age of sixteen years on that date.

Annual population estimates are made only in respect of the month of April each year. It is estimated that the total population of the State on 1st April, 1964, was 2,849,000 persons, and of those the number under the age of sixteen years was 943,000.
