Vol. 212 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ground Rents.

24.

asked the Minister for Justice what steps, if any, the Government propose to take to abolish ground rents.

25.

asked the Minister for Justice if it is intended to implement the recommendations of the report of the Commission on Ground Rents.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take questions Nos. 24 and 25 together.

The recommendations of the Ground Rents Commission, whose report was published in July, 1964, are under examination in consultation with the Departments concerned and I hope to submit proposals concerning them to the Government in the very near future.

May we take it then there is no reliability to be placed upon a recent report which appeared in the newspapers that the Government have already formulated proposals which will be introduced here shortly?

Proposals are in the course of formulation.

They have not been formulated? The former Minister for Justice was reported as stating that they were, in fact, formulated.

The position is that I hope to submit proposals to the Government in the near future.
