Aliens are not classified as permanently or temporarily resident. The law requires an alien who remains in the country for three months to register with the Gardaí. Persons under 16 years of age and British subjects, citizens of some States of the British Commonwealth and citizens of South Africa are not obliged to register. The number of persons registered on 31st October, 1964, was 3,195.
