Vol. 212 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price Changes.

11.

asked the Taoiseach the percentage increase in each item in the Consumer Price Index (a) between August 1963 and August 1964 and (b) between November 1963 and August 1964.

12.

asked the Taoiseach the increase in the national average prices of the principal foodstuffs included in the Consumer Price Index (a) between August 1963 and August 1964 and (b) between November 1963 and August 1964.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 and 12 together and to circulate in the Official Report statements giving (1) the national average retail prices of the principal foodstuffs included in the Consumer Price Index at mid-August and mid-November 1963 and at mid-August, 1964 together with the change in prices between (a) mid-August 1963 and mid-August 1964 and (b) mid-November 1963 and mid-August 1964 and (2) the percentage changes over the same periods in each item included in the Consumer Price Index.

Price quotations in respect of some items of food are not available from all centres at each inquiry and the figures for the percentage changes in these prices, computed in such a way as to eliminate the effect of difference in coverage, may differ somewhat from the percentages calculated from the actual changes.

Following is the statement:—

(1) NATIONAL Average Retail Prices of certain Food items at mid-August and mid-Novembe 1963, and mid-August, 1964, together with the change in prices between (a) mid-August 1963 and mid-August, 1964, and (b) mid-November, 1963 and mid-August, 1964.
