As a result of the review undertaken by the Revenue Commissioners in consultation with the British Commissioners of Customs and Excise, I am satisfied that the approval of additional cross-Border routes for customs purposes is warranted. I am hopeful that this view may be shared by the British authorities and that it may be possible to bring certain new routes into being for the 1965 tourist season. It would be inappropriate for me to say anything further at this stage but I would expect that any new facilities agreed upon could be the subject of simultaneous announcements here and in Great Britain by, say, the end of January next.
