Vol. 212 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Smuggling of Eggs.

9.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance if, having regard to the damage being done to egg production and distribution interests by reason of the large number of smuggled eggs on the market, he will take more effective steps to prevent eggs from being smuggled into the State.

The customs authorities have been fully alive to the need to suppress the traffic referred to and have recently made a number of large seizures. I am satisfied that they are taking all possible measures to prevent this type of smuggling.
