Vol. 212 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radiographers: Service Outside State.

2.

asked the Minister for Health why he continues to refuse recognition for years of service outside the country to radiographers when this recognition has been granted to physiotherapists.

It is presumed that the Deputy's question refers to the grant of increments on salary scales in respect of experience abroad before appointment to the local authority service.

The long standing general practice in the local authority service is that new appointees to the service are remunerated at the minimum of their appropriate salary scales. By reason of an acute shortage of qualified personnel, a departure from the general practice was authorised in the case of the physiotherapist grade and new appointees, who have previous experience, may be remunerated at a higher point than the minimum of the salary scale in accordance with such experience. I do not think I would be justified in extending this concession to the radiographer grade where no such acute shortage exists.
