Vol. 212 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Castleisland (Kerry) Houses.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need for new houses at Castleisland, County Kerry; and that there was a number of applicants, over half of whom were recommended by the county medical officer of health for immediate rehousing, far in excess of the number of houses provided in the last housing scheme completed in the district; and if he will state fully the reasons for the present delay in his Department for a new housing scheme for Castleisland which was submitted by Kerry County Council to him.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of 24th June last on this matter. I have not since received from the housing authority any indication of the housing need in Castleisland nor any proposal for the provision of houses there.

May I tell the Minister that at a housing meeting last Monday week, we were told by the officials that the hold-up in this proposal was in the Department of Local Government?

That is not an unusual practice in local authorities.

Will the Minister look into the matter?

We shall do that.
