Vol. 212 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Piping for Kerry Water Supply Schemes.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that piped water supply schemes being carried out by Kerry County Council are at present in danger of being brought to a halt because of shortage of plastic piping; what action he intends to take to alleviate this shortage; and if he will give local authorities affected in this way permission to obtain piping from sources other than those permitted at present.

A complaint has been received in my Department regarding the failure of the official contractors appointed under the Local Authorities (Combined Purchasing) Act, 1939, to supply the full quantity of plastic piping required by Kerry County Council. I have approved a request made by the Council under Article 9 (1) (f) of the Local Authorities (Combined Purchasing Regulations) Order, 1961, for the purchase of their requirements from alternative sources.
