Vol. 212 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inspections for Unlicensed Television Sets.

51.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why holders of radio licences in Dublin are having their premises frequently inspected by officers of his Department who allege that such holders of radio licences have unlicensed television sets on their premises; and if he will ensure that this form of annoyance to persons who have not got television sets ceases immediately.

I am not aware that holders of radio licences are being annoyed in the manner described, but if the Deputy furnishes me with particulars of the cases he has in mind, I shall have the complaints investigated.

Mr. Ryan

Is it not a fact that the Department are using the register of the holders of radio licences to call upon radio users in order to accuse them of having television sets as well?

Mr. Ryan

The number of cases has increased tremendously over the past few months and there is no explanation for that, other than the one I have given.

That is not in the question. There is no reference to it in the question.
