Vol. 212 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Industries.

31.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he considers it desirable and necessary to set up some type of organisation similar to those in Great Britain and elsewhere which would have special responsibility for promoting small industries in rural towns and villages.

The decision as to the most suitable location for an industry rests ultimately with the promoters and those investing their capital in the project. As the Deputy is aware, valuable State facilities and incentives are available to encourage the establishment and development of industries in all areas. It is for private enterprise to take advantage of these inducements and local interests have done and can do much to encourage private enterprise to set up industries in their own districts. Needless to say, any sound proposal formulated by local or other interests for the setting up of industry in any area is afforded all the assistance within my power.

In view of the foregoing, I do not consider it necessary to set up an organisation of the type mentioned.
