Vol. 213 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of County Signboards.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ensure that clear county signboards are erected at county boundaries on all roads.

A traffic sign to indicate a county boundary has not been specified in the Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 and 1964, as there appears to be no demand for the specification of such a sign.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary not agree it is desirable that these signs should be erected? They are not erected in many counties and would he not agree to their erection throughout the country?

Basically, the duty of providing these signs rests with the road authority. In fact, such signs, as the Deputy will agree, are in general supplied by An Bord Fáilte to the road authority and the Board has power under the Tourist Development Act to do this.
