Vol. 214 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourist Resort Grants.

45.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state in respect of the past six years for each tourist resort that has been allotted grants for tourist development (1) its name (2) the amount of the grant (3) a description of the development and (4) the amount of the local contribution.

The giving of grants for resort development is a statutory function of Bord Fáilte under the Tourist Traffic Acts and particulars of their activities in this field are contained in their annual reports.

An appendix to the Board's report and accounts for 1962/63 gave a break-down of expenditure at the various resorts from the introduction of the scheme in 1959 to July, 1963. I propose to ask Bord Fáilte to bring this information up to date in their report and accounts for 1964/65.

Would the Minister ask Bord Fáilte to supply these figures to me?

I might be able to get Bord Fáilte to send the figures for the previous year if the Deputy wishes to ask a question in two or three weeks' time.

I have asked the Minister the question now. Will the Minister start the session by giving me the courtesy of a reply or will he lapse into his old habits?

I am sorry the Deputy is cavilling about this because a great deal of information is given, as the Deputy knows, in the annual reports and in order to avoid unnecessary duplication of time and effort Deputies might wait until the annual report is presented. In this case, to satisfy the Deputy, if he will ask a question some three weeks from now I shall abstract from the accounts of Bord Fáilte the amount expended in the past year.
