Vol. 214 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Secondary School Building Grants.

120.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of secondary school building grants (1) the number of applications so far received, (2) the total amount applied for, (3) the number of applications sanctioned and the total amount thereof, (4) the total sum paid to date, if any, and (5) the number of applications rejected.

Sixty-eight applications have been received so far. The total cost is estimated at about £6,500,000. Sanction has been given in 19 cases, subject to approval of the detailed schedules of accommodation. The total estimated cost of these 19 schemes is £2,000,000.

As the payment of grants will consist of meeting 60 per cent of the loan charges, no payment will arise until the buildings have been completed.

The number of applications under the scheme which have been rejected is six.
