Vol. 214 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Instruction in Fire Prevention.

62.

asked the Minister for Education if he will have fire prevention instruction introduced into primary schools as an immediate necessity to offset the danger of accidents among juveniles.

The general question of the need for special measures in relation to fire precautions in national and other schools is being examined in my Department and I propose to have appropriate recommendations in this regard issued to the school authorities after consultation with the Minister for Local Government.

While thanking the Minister for his reply, I should like to ask him will he not concede that it is a matter of extreme urgency?

Yes; it is being dealt with as such.

In what period?

We will be consulting with the Minister for Local Government quite soon.
