Vol. 214 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Exports To Channel Islands.

77.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if a special effort to increase the export of butter to the Channel Islands is justified.

I am advised by An Bord Bainne that they have inquired into the possibility of selling Irish creamery butter in the Channel Islands but have found that an effort to open a market there would not be justified. The total butter requirements of the islands are very small and, further-more, unless a direct shipping service becomes available, the market will remain unattractive because of very high freight charges.
