Vol. 214 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bog of Ring (Dublin) School.

8.

asked the Minister for Finance whether plans have been made for the provision of a new school at Bog of Ring, County Dublin; and whether this will soon be put in hand.

The Department of Education sanctioned a grant on 11th February, 1965, for the erection of this school and the Commissioners of Public Works have listed the case for attention. In view of the large number of similar cases awaiting the preparation of working drawings and specification it will be some months before Ring school can be reached.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary give serious consideration to the fact that this school is one of the worst in the country? It has too many pupils for its size; it is rat infested; and the lack of sanitary facilities makes the situation there appalling. Will he take steps to have the working drawings dealt with as soon as possible?

Yes. The position is that in 1961 the manager submitted a site which is much too small. When an alternative site was approved and the sketch plans sent to the manager in September, 1964, the manager scrapped that site and offered the site of the existing school. That is the cause of the delay but I hope to be able to make a start on the school within the next few months.

I take it there is no question in regard to title so far as the proposed site is concerned?

That is right.
